The first annual Sickle Cell weekend, In collaboration with “The Spencer Ware foundation for Sickle Cell.” the Spencer Ware foundation was founded by Spencer Ware of the Kansas city Chiefs. Sickle cell weekend is a catalog of fund raising and community outreach events that are focused on spreading sickle cell awareness in the urban core while simultaneously raising money for a cure. This weekend of events will also be emphasizing arts, athletics, family health, and community. All the proceeds will be donated to “The Spencer Ware foundation for Sickle Cell.” Sickle Cell Weekend starts on June 12 and goes through June 14th 2020.
The first event is a Celebrity versus local Celebrity basketball game. This game will consist of celebs from across the country in support of sickle cell versus local Kansas city celebs who may be influencers from any level of celebrity status that currently live and work in the local Kansas city metropolitan area or born in Kansas city. This game is a family friendly and all are welcome
The second event will be a benefit concert. This benefit will take place Saturday evening one or more musical artist will hit the stage singing some of their most popular songs. This concert will be intimate and the added benefit of a meet and greet. This event will target people of ages 18 to 35 who may not really be aware of sickle Cell at all. We will utilize the artist to deliver the message on stage as they perform.
The third event Will be family fun day in Swope Park where families will have the abilities to just come out and ride bikes, play games, participate in raffles and purchase lunch. They will have the opportunity to Get tested for sickle cell and be directly impacted by the message of sickle awareness. There will be various speaker who will be experts in the subject Matter, Community Advocates, and political figures to help drive the awareness home as the weekend come to a close.
